An Above Par Team: Girls Golf
September 28, 2022
The 2022 Platteview Girls Golf Team is not only killing it on the green, but the coaching and team are molding future role models for society. Claire Peoples, the only senior on the team, said, “golf gives me a lifelong skill that I can use as an adult.”
The team is bonding both at practices and on days off. Kinsley Johnston, a sophomore, mentioned they have team dinners and are also planning to participate in the Halloween Trunk or Treat event as a team.
The new season brings a number of goals for the girls on the team. Johnston wants to “break 100.” Her current record is 101. With Golf Districts coming up within the next weeks, the girls are preparing to hopefully place and move forward toward State.
These team bonding activities help produce a successful golf season for the Trojans. Due to the team winning all three of their duals, most of the girls have been setting personal records when competing.
The toughest course they are going to face this year is the PHS home green. Johnston noted that the difficulty lies in the length of the course and its treacherous hills. The challenge of the PHS home course can actually be of advantage to the Trojans. Since they practice at the course regularly, they have experience with the hills and holes. Their competitors will not be as prepared or aware of the climate of the course and will therefore be behind in the competition.
