As the winter sports season is coming to a close, the school is shifting its focus to spring sports. The Trojan boys golf team has a lot to reclaim from last year. Coach Laughlin looks to take his team back to the state golf tournament after a highly successful season for the Trojans last year, claiming one invite championship, a conference championship, a district runner-up, and numerous individual placements. All of this was capped off at the state golf tournament in Lincoln at the Highlands with the Trojans taking 6th place out of 12 under Jordan Hart’s impressive 153 to earn him 9th in the state along with Matt Kingston’s 161.

The Trojans only lost one senior from last year’s team, which shouldn’t hold them back too much. Matt Kingston will be the only senior on this year’s team as well. “Obviously my biggest goal for this year is to make it back to state” Kingston said. “I want to prepare myself for collegian golf as best as I possibly can as well. I’m beyond excited for what this coming year has in store and I’m just ready to get back out there and make myself a better golfer everyday that I get the chance.”. Kingston will be attending Northeast community college this coming fall to continue his golf career and follow his dream of Professional Golfer’s Management at the University of Lincoln-Nebraska.

The Trojan’s have a long road ahead of them, starting with the usual Gretna invite hosted at Tiburon golf club. The district host school for the B-1 district golf invite this year is yet to be determined, but Platteview does have a bid in for hosting at Platteview Golf Club. With many of the players working this offseason, including Christian Jewell and Jacob Muff who will be filling shoes for this varsity golf season, the Trojans look to make yet another run at state. It is no doubt that Platteview boys golf will be something to keep your eye on this spring.
