Songs, Knights, and Holy Grails: PHS Musical Prepares for “Spam-a-lot”
March 3, 2020
Every year, Platteview’s choir holds a spring musical. To start this decade off, students, faculty, and the community will be able to enjoy Spam-a-Lot, directed by Mr. Matt King and Mrs. Janie Nuss. The musical is a rendition of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and includes many well-loved parts from the comedy, adapted for high school. Eli Stewart will return to play the lead, King Arthur, and Kyley Bishop will be the Lady of the Lake.
After a brief monologue by a historian, the musical kicks off with a short, comical Scandinavian-esque song about slapping one another with fish. King Arthur, the hero of the Britons, is introduced as he travels the countryside locating knights to help him on his quest. Other popular music in the first act includes “I Am Not Dead Yet,” “The Song That Goes Like This,” and “Find Your Grail.” Capping it off, King Arthur and his knights are taunted by a band of Frenchman high up in a castle.
In the second act, the audience will enjoy “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” and “You Won’t Succeed on Broadway.” Later, the knights quell the Knights of Ni and use the ‘Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch’ to slay the blood-thirsty Rabbit of Caerbannog. It all ends after everyone finds their grail and celebrates in a culminating music number.
Spam-a-lot will have its matinee for the junior high and high school on Wednesday, March 11, while the community will be able to enjoy the musical on the following Thursday and Friday, the 12th and 13th of March, at 7:00pm. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for students and children. Tickets can be purchased early at the PHS office.
