Platteview Football Changes District for 2022-2023

With the new NSAA classifications, Platteview will be back to playing in C1 football for another two years. Platteview will find new and familiar opponents in their new district. The NSAA C1-1 District includes, Ashland-Greenwood, Boys Town, Fort Calhoun, Omaha Concordia, and Omaha Roncalli Catholic.

Ashland-Greenwood is not a new opponent for the Trojans. They have played the Bluejays for the last four seasons. Each time, the Trojans have not be able to pull a win. In 2018, the Trojans lost on the road, twenty-five to three. In 2019, they lost at home twenty-eight to seven. In 2020, they faced the Bluejays at home again, but this time they came to Salberg Field as the number team in C1. The Trojans lost the game forty-seven to seven. In 2021, the Trojans were five and three, facing the number one team Ashland once again.

The Boys Town / Platteview matchup continues as the Trojans and Cowboys have had great matchups in the past. In 2019, the Trojans lost in overtime at Boys Towns with a comeback win for the Cowboys. In 2020, the game was a battle, coming down to the special teams play, where the Cowboys once again won in fifteen to seven. The Cowboys traveled back to Salberg Field for the Trojans in a non-district game where the Trojan’s defense stopped the Cowboy’s offense to seal the game. In 2021, the Trojans were looking to get to the playoffs, and Boys Town was a must win game. After having to put together a game winning drive, tight end Dayton Swanson (27) grabbed a touchdown to win it nineteen to eighteen.

Fort Calhoun was in the same district as Platteview in 2018 and 2019. In 2018, the 2-6 Trojans looked to earn an easy win to end the year against a winless Fort Calhoun team. The Pioneers came out punching as they stopped the Trojan’s offense multiple times and got the ball back and attempted an onside kicked to end the Trojans season. The game went into overtime where the “Mahoney Reverse” made its first appearance. The offensive tackle Jace Mahoney (72) ran in a rushing touchdown to put the Trojans up in overtime. Even though the Pioneers scored on the first play of overtime, James Schulze made the game winning pass deflection, giving the Trojans the win which made for the first winning season since 2013.

Omaha Concordia hasn’t played Platteview since the 2018 and 2019 seasons, when the Mustangs beat the Trojans for their Homecoming game in 2018. In 2019, the Trojans got revenge, shutting out the Mustangs thirty to nothing. The Mustangs haven’t had much success since playing in 2019. The Trojans also faced them during the summer of 2021 where the Trojans dominated the scrimmage.

Omaha Roncalli moved back down to C1 in 2022. The Trojans have a history with the Crimson Pride, playing them eight times since 2000. The Pride made the Class B playoffs in 2021, ending with a five in five record.

The Trojan’s official schedule will come out on February 9th, 2022.
