Millikan Torches Pioneers in Record Breaking Night

Kade Kinen, Writer

The Trojans Boys Basketball team looked to win again versus conference opponent Nebraska City to help them in the Trailblazers Conference seeding. The Trojans came into the game off a great win against the Yutan Chieftains, and a win against the Pioneers would add more to that train. The Trojans started the game with high energy on both sides of the ball. Connor Millikan (2) sank 19 points in the first quarter. This would give the Trojans an earlier lead of twenty-seven to twenty.

The Trojans offense didn’t slow down in the second quarter. Millikan (2) was able to drive and penetrate the defense. Going into the half, the Trojans dropped twenty-one points, outscoring the Pioneers who had thirteen in the quarter. Millikan (2) had thirty-four in the half, only needing 13 to break the school record of the most career points in a single game. His career-high in a single game was forty-two against the DC-West Falcons last season.

The previous record holder for most point in a single game was center Bill Milks who played in the late ’70s. He set the record of forty-four points in the 1977 season.

The Trojans came out of the half and didn’t slow down, scoring twenty-one points to the Pioneers’ eleven. To end the quarter, the Trojans wanted the last shot. Millikan (2) had forty-four points, and any point he scored would break the record.

In the final quarter, Millikan (2) grabbed 8 more points to end his record-breaking night with fifty-five points, thirteen rebounds, six assists, and two steals – truly the best performance by any Platteview basketball player ever.

Millikan (2) wasn’t the only player to have a night. Six-foot guard Ezra Stewart (0) had sixteen points, averaging thirteen and half points in the last four games.

The Trojans scored twenty or more points in all four quarters for the first time this season, beating the Pioneers ninety-three to sixty-five.
