Homecoming week is always one of the best weeks of the year for the students at Platteview High School. With all of the activities during the week, the school spirit is very high. This spirit is heightened thanks to our amazing spirit squads. The spirit squads are made up of the PHS Cheerleaders, the PHS Dance Team, and our beloved mascot Terry the Trojan.
There is a lot of behind the scenes work that these groups put in to be able to make Homecoming the most memorable week of the fall season. These ladies work hard to keep the Homecoming traditions at Platteview and to ensure the atmosphere is at an all time high.
Since Homecoming week is the second week of school this year (Aug. 21 – Aug. 25, 2023), the Platteview Cheer Team has had less time than usual to prepare. However, they didn’t let that stop them from working overtime decorating the hallways of the school and making signs in support of PHS sports for the first games of the season. The Cheerleaders have also been getting ready perform a routine and lead the ongoing tradition at Platteview of the “Do it” class chants at the Pep Rally on Friday, Aug. 25th. The team was excited to walk in the Homecoming Parade Wednesday, Aug. 23rd. Senior Lily Rosser exclaimed, “I am looking forward to cheering during the football season, and I am excited to be under the lights for one last year.”
The Platteview Dance Team is preparing for Homecoming this year by perfecting their routine earlier than usual. They are working hard to hone their Homecoming hip hop routine, choreographed by Macy Falk, Avery Klusmire, and Grace Wendle. They are all seniors and captains, and they have been a part of the team since freshman year. The Dance Team is also energized for their competitions this season, including conference, state, regionals, and more. They are working with their new coaching staff and are thankful to have the opportunity to learn from more amazing people. Senior Avery Klusmire said, “I am very excited to be able to cheer on our fantastic athletics and perform at halftime for my last year. Go Trojans!”
