With the new school year comes new seasons for fall sports. Winning the football Homecoming game, the Trojans football team, continues to work hard to achieve their next win. Additionally, the softball team has already made significant improvements from the last season, increasing their skills as a team everyday on the field. The volleyball team started off their season strong with a 3-0 winning streak. With so much going on, it’s safe to say the football, softball and volleyball coaches have been staying busy. These talented trainers gave their opinions on their current season and progress.
Football: Coach McLaughlin
Coach McLaughlin has been coaching champions for the past seventeen years. He started coaching football because “it was the best sport ever invented,” according to Coach Mac. The simple fact that he loves the sport, and everything that goes along with it, he said, “The season has started off very efficient, everything is going well.” He explained the changes the team made to make this season their best: “we have a lot more men this year, most of them are inexperienced.” He shared his predictions for the upcoming season, stating, “We are just going to take it one day at a time. We have new players so we will just take it slow.” With Coach Mac at the helm, the football team remains focused on their goals for the season and consistently puts in the hard work they need to succeed.
Softball: Coach Lingle and Coach Jenkins
The Trojan softball team is lead by Aaron Lingle (head coach) and Nate Jenkins (assistant coach). Lingle has been coaching summer softball for 8 years and high school softball for 2 years. He expressed, “Coaching teams is my passion, its my job train these athletes to reach their maximum potential.” Jenkins, on the other hand, has spent the last four years coaching his youngest daughter with the SYAA. He has been coaching high school for two years. Jenkins goal is “having a positive impact on the players I coach just like I had growing up.” Lingle described the season in a couple words: “Electric, smiles, high fives, cheering, emotion, teamwork, and having fun!” He also shared, “When we play like we can, the energy in this team is so fun to watch.” The team has made improvements to become the best versions of themselves by “working toward our goals and achieving the mindset ‘don’t practice till you get it right, practice till you can’t get it wrong,” said Jenkins.
Volleyball: Coach Speth
Volleyball is coached by Shea Speth. Coach Speth has been coaching for 17 years 15 years as a head coach. The team didn’t lose any seniors this year, so there is high hopes that the Varsity Team have more depth in their game as the season continues. Coach Speth has high expectations and goals of reaching State this year. The team theme this year is “Make it happen,” which puts the emphasis on controlling the game. There goal is to win a Trailblazer Conference Championship, host District finals, and make State.
