The speech season has recently taken off at Platteview High School. On December 2nd, 2023 Speech members had their first meet at Papillion La Vista South. Ada Heneger (11), Maddie Romans (10), and Kinsley Knief (10) made it to finals.
Ada Heneger placed first in Poetry. She said, “Getting first was invigorating. There was a lot of competition and the atmosphere was really great.”
Ada wasn’t he only Trojan coming home with a metal. Maddie Romans (10) and Kinsley Knief (10) got second place in Duo Acting. Maddie said, “I was so excited to get 2nd place. We were against five other duos, we changed our speech minutes before we performed and still somehow pull it off.”
They are all very proud of how they performed on Saturday. Erin Wyss (10) expressed how fun she had at the competition, saying “the Speech captains made sure that people knew what they were doing. I did better than what I thought for my first meet.”
Lillian Guenther (9) shared her experience doing Speech for the first time: “The first meet was honestly kind of stressful but was really fun.”
Speech has gained so many new members this year like Caylee Roegge (9). Her reason behind joining was to “Get out of my comfort zone, I wanted to be involved in activities at the school.” They are hoping to have a great year and are so excited for their next meet and to see how much they have improved.
