Schools all over the country have their own unique traditions. At Platteview, students have traditions that they find very important and will forever hold in their memories. The State send offs and HOCO games are merely a couple of the Trojans’ most cherished traditions.
Platteview has send offs when participants in a sport or activity make it to State. During send offs, they have everyone stand in the hallways while the band marches the State qualifiers through the halls. When preparing, the Band meets for 15 minutes to organize. This year, extracurriculares including Volleyball, trap, E-Sports, and Girls Golf all qualified for State. Ada Heneger (11) said, “ I think the send off is a good thing for the school spirit because it helps us recognize the people who went to state.”
Another popular tradition is HOCO week. Students play games to earn points for their grade, such as dodgeball, chess, Mario-kart, and Minute to Win it. The Student Council picks members to represent their grade for dodgeball. Chess tournaments play out until there’s only one person left. Mario-kart competitors race to get to the finish line. Minute to Win it games are small competitions that allow students to play a variety of games in different categories. Platteview plays these games to help students connect with one another and give them a chance to participate in activities they otherwise wouldn’t. The grade with the most points at the end of the week wins and they are rewarded with a huge pizza party.
Platteview Trojans are very happy to continue to pass down these traditions for many years to come.
