Beloved Deputy Sanderson, Platteview High School’s School Resource Officer (SRO), will be leaving the Trojan community within the next month. While this is a sad occasion, it is for a positive reason. He has been promoted to Sergeant of the Criminal Investigations Unit. He will begin to track cases assigned to investigators, review search warrants, and create operation plans for warrants and arrests. It takes an incredible amount of hard work as well as dedication to be promoted to sergeant; therefore, Platteview couldn’t be more proud of Deputy Sanderson.
Sarah Savoboda, Platteview Central Counselor, says, “While Platteview will not be the same without him, we are lucky to have the time that he had with the best SRO! We are excited to see the success that is in his future, but he will always be a Trojan.”
Deputy Sanderson shares that he will always cherish the moments he shared with PHS, commenting, “You guys are amazing. It made my day better seeing all you guys and getting to watch you grow up these past couple years.”
Deputy Sanderson has had not only an impact on Platteview High School. He’s had a great impact with the students, including Charlotte Dodd (12). Dodd states, “Sanderson has always been a friendly face to turn to, especially when you need a laugh.”
Charlotte wasn’t the only student that appreciates his kindness. Lillian Rosser (12) looks forward to just stop by and say “hi” to Sanderson. “He knows how to make everyone smile,” said Rosser.
Sarah Svoboda said, “Deputy Sanderson made himself a Trojan from the first time he walked into our buildings. His relationship building with our students made him truly one of a kind. There is a comfort level that our students have with him because he genuinely cares about their well-being. His support for our students and athletes really made it stand out that this wasn’t just a job for him.”
Bethany Stewart, Platteview High School Administrative Assistant, sums up how PHS feels about the change:“As much as I’m going to miss him, I couldn’t be more happy to see him get the promotion he deserves.”
Sanderson’s “right hand man” Scott Jenson (PHS Physical Education teacher) expressed how thankful he is for Deputy “Johnny” Sanderson, saying, “I thank him for the chats, big and small, important and not important. He has become a friend and I know that friendship may dwindle a bit not seeing each other, every day but I hope I can still call and get advice on things no matter the subject matter. I’d also thank him for being a member of the law enforcement and protecting our streets.”
Platteview thanks Deputy Sanderson for his influence on the community, for keeping the students and teachers safe, and always putting a smile on everyone’s faces.
