Each year, a flock of Platteview students graduate and leave the Trojan nest to pursue their passions. For the class of 2024, this was no different. Graduation is known to be an emotional ceremony for all, and the end of their senior year is a time for reflecting on fond memories, for soon they will be looking ahead at their grand destiny laid before them.
Graduation is a time for seniors to look back on their elementary years, remembering fond memories from years past. Alumni Zayden Edwards shared, “My fondest memories from elementary school are playing football, soccer, and 4-Square with friends that I’m still friends with today.
Lifelong memories are created during high school years, whether that be from spirit week, activities, sports, or everyday classes. Alumni soccer star Dominic Hobbs commented, “My favorite memory from high school was beating Blair in a comeback shootout victory.” It’s moments like these that students can fondly look back on many years in the future.
A lot changes from elementary school to senior year, especially a student’s dream career. Alumni Andi “Sprout” Carman described, “As a kid, I was to be an artist, or an animator, or anything that allowed me to be able to draw. I was well rounded in school but I really liked being creative and using my kind of medium to create art. Now, I am studying to be a mechanical engineer. One of my friends, who was a junior at the time, mentioned that is what he wanted to be and that is when I realized I had no idea engineering existed and I researched it. I saw that I could be creative and put my brains to use.” Sprout hopes to use her degree to help build rockets, fulfilling her fascination for space.
Much wisdom is gained throughout students’ high school years. Kaiden Slaughter, a 2024 graduate, shared with the current and future Trojans, “You don’t have to figure out everything in life right away. Trying to plan your whole life in high school is weird, your wants and dreams can change a lot, so don’t think you need to figure everything out quickly. Take your time while you figure out who you want to be.”
