Nearly halfway through the 2024-2025 school year, Platteview Trojans are hard at work balancing their academics and extracurriculars. Students are supported through all of their struggles and achievements by the entire Springfield community. Aspects ranging from close-knit community to academic resources are proof of why Platteview is great.
One thing that students love about Platteview is the size; it’s not too big and not too small. Macy Czech (12) describes, “I love the size of Platteview. It’s big enough that you can meet tons of different people, but small enough that you see familiar faces in the halls and you know your teachers. I also love the extracurriculars at Platteview. Students can do anything they want to do. Us students don’t necessarily have to commit to just band or just football; they can do both.” This flexibility in students’ schedules help Trojans pursue their interests after school alongside their peers.
Small communities can play a large role in forming close-knit relationships. Jayden Anderson (12) believes that, “The students and teachers are what make Platteview great. Another thing that makes it great is the support from the community of Springfield.” Events such as the Homecoming Parade demonstrate that the town and school are intertwined and supportive of one another.
Likewise, freshman Cole Anderson comments, “The sense of community makes Platteview great. Students can strike up a conversation with someone they’ve never met before and other students will most likely talk with other kids in the school.”
Platteview’s culture has a lasting impression on Trojans. Marlee Ferguson (11) explains, “The community of Platteview is one of the main things that makes Platteview great. Every activity, whether it is athletics, theater, music, or something else has support from our community. Platteview has a culture like no other, especially within our special events like our Veteran’s Day Ceremony. It is something that is a pleasure to witness and I’m very proud that we have such a supportive community.”
Devoted educators play a critical role in a student’s learning experience and education quality. Lydia Stewart (12) shares, “Platteview has teachers who are dedicated to making their students better as students and as human beings. We have really nice facilities and resources that other schools don’t have. Platteview offers many different dual credit courses for students to get ahead and be able to start on college classes.” Trojan teachers help to guide students and keep them on track for a successful future.
The combination of community, teachers, and resources lead to a positive and healthy environment, which could be considered one of the most important aspects of a still-developing young adult’s mind. Judah Stewart (9) announces, “Platteview is great because we are dedicated to creating an environment of safety where students can be who they really are. Platteview is also great because of our various backgrounds and inclusiveness.” No matter what hobbies or interests students have, they are guaranteed to find a group who share the same interests.
The Trojan community spans more than just Platteview High School; the entire town of Springfield plays a role in a student’s high school experience. The love and support emanating from all around is unlike any other, and that is why Trojans readily argue why Platteview is truly great.
