Each year, Platteview High School greatly encourages students to participate in multiple sports and extracurricular activities. As a result, numerous Trojan students partake in multiple sports. These multi-sport athletes put in extra work throughout the school year to improve their athletic abilities while balancing their academics and social life.
Senior athlete Enrique Gomez participates in football in the fall and soccer in the spring. Having a full schedule year-round can be difficult. He described, “Being a multi-sport athlete is hard and challenging, but it can be overcome by the support myself and others receive.” Having to train a certain way for multiple sports takes dedication, and support and mentoring by others can go a long way in a student-athlete’s life.
Similarly, tri-sport athlete Brooklyn Stehlik (11) competes in volleyball, basketball, and track. She commented, “It’s hard, but fun. It means constantly staying after school for hours with your friends, but practices aren’t always easy. You gotta work and gotta want to be there.” Building endurance both physically and mentally takes time, grit, and determination, all of which Brooklyn has obtained over her years as a Trojan athlete.
Annually participating in softball, dive, and track, Kinsley Knief (11) knows firsthand how to juggle sports with her other daily activities. She stated, “All of these sports have really challenged my time management but it has always been worth it. I really don’t know what I would do without everything I do. I also have met amazing people in every sport, and I’m really thankful for that.” Friendships and memories made during each season can last a lifetime, making each practice worthwhile.
Platteview has a multitude of multi-sport athletes. During the 2024-2025 school year, these skilled athletes will continue to succeed and improve. Each and every one of these Trojan athletes’ dedication shines through at each practice, their admirable perseverance never yielding.
