The Platteview High School Wrestling team kicked off their season with high spirits. As each athlete gains experience, they discover different techniques and practices to help prepare them for each match.
Trojan wrestlers are constantly at work trying to improve their skills. Samuel Smith (11) described, “Something that helps us is that we constantly do a lot of conditioning and constant technique work while our coaches push us to our limits.” He continued, “My motivation is the fact I’m already at a disadvantage for never having wrestled before and I just want to prove people wrong.” This combination of motivation, discipline, and determination help to build a formidable athlete on the mat.
One of his fellow teammates, junior Riley Schlect, shared a similar preparation process, saying, “I love to get a good sweat before my matches so my muscles are warm. My coaches are my primary motivation. They push me to do my best and it makes me feel accomplished, especially after winning.” Each athlete adapts to and utilizes their own unique pre-match rituals, backed up by deep-rooted motives. Platteview’s dedicated wrestlers all follow this pattern, and their exceptional performance in each match serves as proof.
Sophomore Maddy Stapp has had a strong season so far. Stapp commented, ”My favorite moments in wrestling are definitely the time in between matches at meets. It’s always super fun with the team and our coaches. The thing I am most looking forward to is districts.”
The Wrestling Districts competition will take place on February 7, 2025. Until then, these Trojan athletes will continue to prepare, practice, and perfect their skills and techniques.
