A film set in DC’s universe, The Batman (2022) introduces a new take on the heroes and villains of Gotham. With Robert Pattinson starring as our moody caped crusader, he portrays the grief that Bruce Wayne had to experience and endure. Paul Dano, the Riddler, demonstrates just how far some people are willing to go to expose and correct the corrupted individuals at the top of the societal food chain. All in all, despite the length of the movie, it’s gritty and action-packed with top-notch acting. It’s clear that, with its cult following, the storyline is interesting and will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The acting in The Batman is very different from other storylines. Robert Pattinson portrays a more emotionally complex Batman than other actors have in the past. Comparing Pattinson to Adam West, who played Bruce Wayne in the 1966 live-action TV series, gave audiences a sillier take on the character. West’s portrayal of the titular superhero gave a fun and physical side, while Pattinson gave more of a brooding and vulnerable look into how Batman can be portrayed.
The primary action within the movie is centered around Batman being part of an investigation that looks into the horrific murder of Gotham’s mayor, Don Mitchel. Through his murders and attacks, Dano’s Riddler forces Batman to take a closer look at the corruption that is a looming shadow over the city. On top of being a key variable in a city-wide case, Bruce Wayne must put the brakes on a large-scale attack about to be carried out by the Riddler and his followers.
The Batman (2022) was a box office success. It collected over $770 million, and received hundreds of thousands of positive reviews from audiences and critics. Because of this, and the cult following that it gathered on social media upon release date, director Matt Reeves has confirmed a sequel. The Batman II is set to release in October of 2027, with Pattinson returning as the brooding caped crusader.
