Having graduated from Platteview High School in 2024, Zayden Edwards currently pursues a career in Mixed Martial Arts as an amateur MMA fighter competing in many local events around Nebraska. What got him into MMA was his overall interest in the sport itself. He described in an interview that he, as a kid seeing it for the first time, thought it was crazy and not right. However, he couldn’t take his eyes off the whole ordeal as he continued to watch the UFC fighters. As he grew older, he came to fall in love with the sport, taking part in wrestling for two years on behalf of his high school before joining a gym for MMA.
He made his debut on November 22nd, 2024, during the Thanksgiving Throw Down held at The Astro in La Vista, Nebraska. The event was held by Dynasty Combat Sports. For his debut fight, he managed to knock his opponent down to the ground before pulling him back up to his feet, in turn ending the round with a tap out.
His most recent fight was at the New Years Knockouts held at Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Ralston, Nebraska. Edwards went against Amir Rasulov, weighing in at 138 Ibs the night prior. They both lasted for all 3 rounds, each lasting 3 minutes, leaving the decision up to the judges. As the third round came to a close with the sound of the horn, referee Joe Doherty commented: “Both of these kids had better technique than I ever did as a kid.”
His words resonated as the votes were being counted. The young men fought very well, both showing off their technique and quick thinking as the rounds progressed with their respective appropriate responses to each and every punch or kick thrown their way. In the end, Amir won by unanimous decision.
Alumni Edwards Edwards is continuing to pursue his love for MMA fighting this year, perfecting his skills and techniques for his next match. His next upcoming fight is scheduled for March 14, 2025, during the St. Patty Showdown at the Astro in La Vista, Nebraska.
