Platteview High School takes great pride in its student body–namely, the students’ voices. Trojan students and their voices are integral to the school community. Whether meaningful observations over impactful events or, in this case, humorous answers to trivial questions, these young adults always have something to add.
Growing up, kids are commonly intrigued with superheroes and superpowers. With the growing weight of responsibility that teenagers face, many no longer ask themselves these imaginary inquiries. Evan Baatz (12) was asked: What superpower of your choice would most benefit you and your high school experience? He remarked, “I’ll take the easy out answer on this and say super intelligence. It would make high school and life in general so much easier.” Although an “easy out” answer, it’s an understandable one–after all, what high schooler wouldn’t want hyper-intelligence?
Similarly to the fading superhero inquiries, many Trojan students are asked more questions about whether or not they finished their homework than what their favorite Disney characters are. Senior Colin Morey answered that his is Kronk from Emperor’s New Groove. As the seniors at Platteview get closer and closer to graduation, students like Morey are more than ready to “pull the lever” and slide into the next chapter of their lives. Comparably, if magically stuck inside an elevator with any Disney character, Surina Rust (12) said that she would choose Aladdin “so that he could somehow get us out of there with his genie.”
If animals could suddenly speak English, which species would be the rudest? According to Christian Duggan (12), “The grumpiest animal would be the alligator. They’re always hungry.” Everyone knows people who are most crabby when they’re hangry, and alligators would probably be no exception.
When asked “How’s it going?”, one of the most popular responses from any high schooler would be “tired.” If given the chance, senior Bryson Banks would be calling dibs to take a nap on the couch in the boys locker room. Alex Krenzer (12) added that he believed the worst place to lay down for a snooze would be the hard tables in the science classrooms.
In a world where academic stress, looming responsibilities, and post-graduation plans often take center stage, it’s refreshing to pause and hear the lighter, more imaginative voices of Platteview High School students. These responses—whether clever, nostalgic, or just plain funny—can remind the community that even in the midst of deadlines and decisions, humor and creativity still thrive.
