Being a small school composed of around 400 students, Platteview High School is all about connections. Throughout one’s high school career, Trojan students build close-knit relationships with their peers and staff. High school isn’t just about grades—it’s about finding your people.
A large percentage of students feel understood by their teachers and faculty, a situation that greatly improves their experience as a Trojan learner. “I felt connected with Platteview High School because of the teachers that went out of their way to help me get through the class if I was struggling,” described senior Elijah Wirth. Kaylee Masoloskie (12) and David Haydam (12) said they felt connected to teachers who supported them. Haydam added, “I got the help I needed in my study halls to finish my assignments.”
Similarly, numerous Trojans feel connected with the Springfield community through extracurriculars–namely, athletics. Playing on sports teams provides opportunities for students to socialize and build their teamwork skills, and long-lasting friendships are often built along the way. Brayden Neujahr (12) remarked, “Sports have always been my way of connecting with people. Getting engaged with school activities during advisory helped, too.” Seniors Sebastian Turco and Alexander Smith also feel united with the Trojan family through football and the trap team, respectively. A team isn’t just a roster; it’s a shared journey.
Even senior Trojans that joined Platteview for their first year in August 2024 found a new family in PHS. Fredrik Hammoda (12) mentioned, “As an international student, I have been welcomed to Platteview High School in the best way possible. I’m connected to the school because of all my friends that I have gotten in a short amount of time.” Belonging isn’t determined by time—it’s determined by people.
At its core, Platteview High School is more than just a building where students learn—it’s a community where connections are cultivated and individuals are valued. Whether one is a Trojan for four years or just one, the bonds formed here—between students, teachers, teammates, and friends—create a sense of belonging that lasts far beyond graduation. In every classroom, on every field, and in every hallway, the spirit of support and togetherness defines what it means to be part of the Trojan family. At Platteview, connection isn’t just a part of the experience—it is the experience.
