Platteview High School offers a diverse array of athletics, clubs, competitive activities, and student groups for students to get involved in this fall, including golf, volleyball, softball, football, and One Act. These activities are not only fun but also serve as meaningful opportunities for personal and academic growth. Participation helps students discover their potential, build teamwork skills, and prepare for future success in the real world, all while creating lasting high school memories. Below are short descriptions, goals, and updates for some of the great activities available to PHS students during the 2025 Fall semester.
Girls Golf
Golf requires patience, focus, and dedication, but it also provides enjoyment whether a student is an experienced player or trying the sport for the first time. It offers a chance to grow as both an athlete and an individual. Progress takes motivation, especially when challenges arise.
Sierra Stednitz (12) shared, “My overall score motivates me to practice more and improve my skills.”
Golf demands self-motivation while also encouraging teammates to support each other. As the team builds bonds and works together, they reach higher accomplishments. Sierra’s favorite part of the sport is, “seeing all the new people who are joining and then taking action to make it fun for everyone so that the value of the sport continues after I graduate.”
Volleyball
Volleyball emphasizes both individual growth and team unity. Along the way, athletes gain valuable life skills such as leadership, communication, and teamwork. The game is filled with challenges, opportunities, and excitement, with motivation sparked by the adrenaline of competition and the drive to improve.
Players are inspired by personal goals, like mastering new techniques, and by external goals, such as winning as a team and seeing their hard work pay off. Brooklyn Stehlik (12) said her favorite aspect of volleyball is “getting to compete and play against my friends.”
Softball
For Platteview Softball, success isn’t defined by one single moment but by continuous effort. This season, before focusing on games, the team worked hard on refining their fundamentals because the little things make the biggest difference. Their practices are filled with energy, determination, and unity as they encourage each other to grow every drill, every practice, and every game.
Players are motivated by their love for the game, their commitment to improvement, and their determination to win while keeping a positive mindset. Reese Lingle (12) shared, “I find my motivation through wanting to embrace every opportunity and playing with 100% of the energy I can give. I am also motivated by wanting to be the best player for my team and always keeping a positive attitude to make us better.”
The team’s goals this season include working together, putting maximum effort into every practice, and improving every moment. A major goal is to finish the year with their best record yet.
Football
Platteview Football is built on improvement, brotherhood, and creating something to be proud of. The team dedicates itself to giving everything on the field and coming back stronger each day. Motivation comes from striving to reach their full potential while also playing for teammates, coaches, families, and the school. Jackson Tighe (11) is looking forward to the season, saying, “We are looking better than last year. I’m hoping we have a really good season.
Discipline and encouragement keep the team focused. They play to win but also for the love of the game. Eric Wells (9) commented on the team’s preparation and successful 2 game wins, saying that the football team has “been working on improving how we run our plays and how the tempo works.” These experiences build not only a season but also a lasting legacy. Team goals for the year will be shared following upcoming interviews.
One Act
One Act is one of the most exciting activities of the season, combining creativity, teamwork, and acting talent. Auditions took place August 20th and August 21st, 2025,, and this year’s show is an original murder mystery set in 1920s Chicago, written by Dr. Kersulov with Maren Ferguson and Marlee Ferguson. The production features music, singing, and even stage combat.
Motivation for One Act comes from the friendships made on stage, the thrill of live performance, and the personal goal of becoming a better actor. Marlee Ferguson (12) said, “The aspect I love most about this activity is sharing the stage with so many wonderful people that love theatre as much as I do, and giving that love of theatre right back to each and every audience member.”
This season’s goals include maintaining a productive and enthusiastic rehearsal environment, delivering strong performances at home (November 7–9, 2025), and competing at their best during conference and district competitions later in November and December. Crew members are still needed for lights, sound, props, costumes, painting, and set construction. Interested students should contact Dr. Kersulov.
Whether it’s on the course, the court, the field, or the stage, Platteview students are finding ways to challenge themselves, support their teammates, and grow as individuals. Each activity builds not only skills but also friendships, memories, and lessons that last long after the season ends. Together, these fall activities showcase the pride, dedication, and Trojan spirit that make Platteview High School such a special place.
