FPS and FCCLA are groups at Platteview High School that help students develop skills and express their creativity. Future Problem Solvers recently competed at the Nebraska State Level, and FCCLA had their Star Events leading several people to advance to the National Level.

Future Problem Solvers is a nonprofit educational corporation administering creative problem solving activities not only in Nebraska, but all over the world. Jace Mahoney, Sophie Johnson, Elise Lutz, and Louden Ferguson placed first at State for their Senior Division Skit. “I definitely love doing FPS because we come up with some pretty strange ideas and we get credit for them,” sophomore Claire Snodgrass explained. Snodgrass’ team consisted of Emma Mathias, Nathan Seeger, and Ella Ferguson. Their team placed fifth: “We really worked well together and could bounce crazy ideas off of each other.”

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a nonprofit organization that helps students develop skills in different career fields. FCCLA had a great performance at their Star Event with several of its members placing. Sicily Goosen, Alyssa Gourley, and Jayden Sorensen placed gold and advanced to Nationals for Food Innovations. Sicily Goosen said “yes” to FCS by signing, thus commiting to a career as a Culinary Arts Professional. Four people were also awarded with silvers: Hayley Robb, Career Investigation event; Mallory Kern, Teach and Train event; Alec Janousek, Entrepreneurship event; and Caiden Valentine, Focus on Children. Mallory Kern was also recognized as a future FCS teacher.

Congratulations to everybody who placed in the events!
