The annual Blood Drive is coming to Platteview High School on November 5th, 2021. The drive is hosted by the American Red Cross in order to get critically needed blood to help people in need. The Platteview High School chapter of National Honors Society helps host at the school, meeting one of the organization’s goals of helping and serving the community.

According to the Red Cross, someone in the United States needs donated blood every two seconds. On average, nearly 21 million blood components are transfused each year in the U.S. Whether they were in a car accident, a fire, or an organ transplant, blood is necessary for many life saving procedures.

The Blood Drive provides an opportunity for Platteview students to donate blood and maybe even save lives. “I think it is a noble cause that will help people in the long run,” said sophomore Alex Glynn.

If students  want to participate in the drive, they should talk to members of NHS to sign up. If students are 16 or older by November 5th, they are eligible to give blood, with parent’s permission.

For more information about donating Blood, students can also visit the Red Cross website.
