Even though the weather is starting to turn cold and days are getting shorter, that doesn’t mean sports and fun school activities come to a stop. During the winter Platteview has multiple different sports that our athletes compete in, including basketball, wrestling, and swimming.

The Boys Basketball team is currently 5-1. Taking a close 58-54 win against Boys Town on December, 17th, as well as taking another 60-42 against Gross on the 18th, both games were tough for the boys. However, they managed to preserve and take the win. Hopefully they will continue to use this perseverance and carry it into the later parts of their season. Girl’s Basketball has went 2-3 so far this season, taking some tough early losses. Despite how young the basketball team is they are still able to hold its own with much more experienced teams.

On Dec 17, 2021, there was a home wrestling meet at Platteview. At this tournament senior Eliott Steinhoff took 1st place, senior Nick Horst took 2nd, and senior Adian Riha and junior Dylan Bills both won 3rd place. A solid performance for the wrestling team on its home turf, these wins signal that the boys can expect a good season.

On December 18th, for the first time in NSAA history, Platteview hosted the first ever sanctioned Girl’s Wrestling tournament  With  23 schools in attendance at the event it was a massive showing of the growing support happening in girl’s wrestling. The Platteview Girl’s wrestling team continues to look forward to its first ever sanctioned state event later on this year.

The Swim and Dive team had a meet on December 14th at Bellevue West. Platteview students placed extremely well at this event; with Nicholas George taking 1st in the 50 meter freestyle and 3rd in the 100 meter freestyle, and AJ Razzler took 2nd and 3rd in the 200 Meter Freestyle and 500 Meter Freestyle. While the swim team ultimately lost the meet to Bellevue West, these strong individual performances showed off the contributions the Platteview students can make.
