Platteview has had an exciting 2017-2018 basketball season, with both the girls’ and boys’ team qualifying for NSAA’s State Basketball Tournament.

Platteview’s Girls Basketball team qualified with a win against Aurora on February 17th, 2018. At the end of the second quarter the Trojan’s were up 15 to 10, eventually ending the game with a score of 43 to 40. The win against Aurora advanced Platteview to the next bracket in class B where they played South Sioux City at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on March 1, 2018. The girls played a tough game, South Sioux City scoring 65-56; Payton Brotzki with 31 and Sabrina Starks with 11.

This was the team’s second trip to the state competition in the past three years. Senior, Payton Brotzki, said making it to state was one of the highlights of her basketball season. “We didn’t make it last year, so it was super fun to be able to experience that again,” said Brotzki.

Congratulations to Head Coach Ron Coughlin; Assistant Coaches Greg Gentile, Steve Lundeen, Alex Dostal, and Sarah Shea; and the girl’s Platteview team for their exciting basketball season. Junior, Kaleigh Koehler, is extremely proud of her team’s achievements. “Our team really came together as one big family,” said Koehler. “We played as a team and stayed positive throughout the whole season, no matter the circumstances.”

Platteview’s Boys Basketball team also qualified for NSAA’s Basketball State Tournament winning the district championship against Norris on February 26th, 2018. The Trojans scored 73-39, advancing the team to the next bracket where faced Gretna on March 8th, 2018. The Trojans ended their season with an exciting game, Gretna up 67-35. Platteview Trojans are excited to see the team play again next season.

Congratulations to both the girls’ and boys’ teams for their amazing 2017-2018 basketball season.
