As the end of the year approaches many seniors will begin to look back at their last year at high school and realize how different and unexpected it was rather than what they intended it to be coming into it. When you’re younger, senior year seems like it’s a million miles away. The illusion that you have all the time in the world before your senior year begins to quickly fade.
Some faster than others, as fellow Platteview High School senior Erin Wyss exclaimed, “Senior year is way more emotional than I thought it would be. I remember saying that I couldn’t wait to grow up, but now I just want time to pause so I can enjoy everything while it lasts.”
While some students are dreading showing up for their last day of high school, hoping to soak up their last years of fun, others have had a hard time showing up at all, suffering with a bad case of senior-itis. From a younger student’s perspective it may seem that senior year is the year everything “clicks,” though many seniors have found themselves waking up late for class, procrastinating assignments, and scrambling to get grades up.
Nevertheless, whether you’re excited for senior year, nervous, or dreading it completely, embrace it. Go to that football game, ask that person to the dance, try out for that sports team. This is a time you can’t redo, and you won’t get back. Don’t forget to congratulate yourself as well, high school is full of battles and challenges that you have not only persevered through, but accomplished.
