For the Class of 2026 at Platteview High School, Prom is more than just a dance—it is a defining moment, marking both a celebration of the present and the closing of a chapter that has shaped their lives for the past four years. For many of the seniors it symbolized one of their final shared moments, marking a milestone before graduating.
Marlee Ferguson reflected on the emotional weight of the night while also highlighting the joy she experienced, saying, “It was sad to know that this was my last high school dance, but I also used that knowledge to push myself out of my comfort zone. I had the most fun I ever had at a high school dance.” For Marlee and others, Prom became an opportunity to fully embrace the moment, letting go of hesitation and making the most of the night. After Prom, she enjoyed karaoke and getting a caricature drawn with her friends, even winning a flower Lego set to take with her into her next chapter of life.
Maren Ferguson shared, “I was most excited for hanging out with my friends on Prom night. We had food at my house before heading to the dance and then got ready for the after prom at my house as well.” She explained that while she had a clear vision for her dress, it took multiple shopping trips to find the right one. Even with the sentimental weight of the night, she focused on enjoying it. “I felt very sentimental knowing it was my last ever high school dance, but I also just wanted to enjoy the moment.” Her favorite memories came from After Prom, especially the temporary tattoos and singing karaoke. She also won a combination desk, but what stood out to her was a quieter moment. “Sitting and talking to my friend, Beth, while we had our caricatures drawn, It reminded me of all the simple times I will remember after high school.”
Reese Lingle also emphasized how meaningful the night was because of the people she spent it with. “I enjoyed spending After Prom with Riley. We did the drawings and got matching polar bear tattoos. It was definitely a night to remember.” Riley Schlecht added a more lighthearted approach, saying he was most excited “to get my boogie on.”

While Prom itself has been a highlight for all of these seniors, it also brought a sense of relief. Kinsley Knief said, “Honestly, I was relieved when I realized this would be the last dance I would have to plan for.” For some, Prom stood out because of its unique theme and activities. Blake Hibbetts said he was most excited about “dancing to the disco songs,” fully embracing the theme. Sierra Stednitz shared a different perspective, focusing on the excitement of getting dressed up and even appearing on TV coverage for prom.
Kaelynn Harder captured the emotional side of Prom, saying, “It was a very bitter-sweet experience. I had so much fun and was so happy to experience it with all my friends, but also very sad that this was our last high school dance.” Sharing what meant the most to her was the memories made with friends.
Across the senior class, a common theme emerged; the importance of shared experiences. Many students said they were most excited about getting ready with their friends, going to dinner, and taking pictures before the dance. In the end, Prom for the Class of 2026 was not just about dresses, music, or decorations. It was about celebrating friendships, embracing once-in-a-lifetime moments, and holding onto memories that will last a lifetime.
